DESCRIPTION: EPW - Pierre Charlo, gold repoussé verge fusee quarter-hour repeater, 49mm, 14K rose gold (tested) OF pair cases with false 18K marking to sleeve of pendant, outer with repoussé classical scene to rear depicting a standing gentleman playing a flute to entertain a seated man and woman, cases pierced for sound transmission, inner with slide at 7 for dumb repeat function, bell not removed from inner to inspect for possibility of marking beneath, white enamel dial, KWKS, verge escapement, gilt mvt with pierced and foliate scrolled balance cock having grotesque mask at neck, s#536. Gross weight of assembled watch 66.0 dwt (102.7 g).
CONDITION: Mvt: NR, chain is detached from fusee but hook appears to be present, balance will tick with reverse pressure held to fusee, inconsistent repeat function with occasional entire failures to strike intermixed with occasional returns of a single hour strike and two or three quarter-hour strikes, on no trials were more than a single hour strike returned regardless of hand setting, repeat tone is typically entirely muffled though infrequently it will have a single clear resonant bell tone intermixed with the muffled strikes, overhaul needed, fine-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, scratches around pillar positions, some fine scratches elsewhere; dial with scattered hls, small chipping around aperture for mvt latch, small edge flaking at 9; fine hands of mismatched gilt tone; outer case shows light wear, small puncture below flute player's head which has been patched with a bit of glue and gold paint which is cosmetically very well executed, small hl fracture to pierced detail at upper-right perimeter of rear, engraving detail good overall apart from loss of detail at high relief portions, button latch good; inner case shows very little wear, circumferential indentation around sides, ding to upper rear, many small nicks throughout rear, excellent engraving detail; bow pivots semi-freely; domed glass bull's-eye crystal with few fine scratches, discolored spot at lower-left perimeter.
